Eight prospects earned promotion from the CFL Invitational Combine in Waterloo, Ontario, advancing to the main CFL Combine in Edmonton on March 27-29 after standout performances at the University of Waterloo on March 6.
The promoted prospects represent the top performers across positions from a U Sports field evaluated against the physical and athletic standards that CFL organizations use to identify prospects worth a full combine invitation. The eight players advancing to Edmonton are running back Liam Talbot from Windsor, wide receiver Tyriq Quayson from Windsor, defensive back Ethan John from Windsor, wide receiver Matt Sibley from Calgary, offensive lineman Victor Olaniran from Manitoba, offensive lineman Chris Pashula from Calgary, defensive back Gianni Green from Guelph, and defensive lineman Steven Kpehe from Queen's.
The University of Windsor program, which sent three of the eight promoted prospects, has developed into one of the most productive pipelines for the professional evaluation process in U Sports football over the past four years. The back-to-back promotions at running back and wide receiver from the same program — Talbot and Quayson — will generate interest from multiple franchises given the rarity of having two promoted prospects from the same school evaluated at the same event.
The Edmonton Combine itself features a 70-player invitee list headlined by quarterback Christian Veilleux from Georgia State, who attended the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis in February and has drawn interest from multiple CFL organizations as a potential developmental starter. CFL franchises have maintained consistent interest in quarterbacks with NCAA experience, and Veilleux's profile — a player with power conference game experience and specific combine measurables — makes him the most closely watched player at the Edmonton evaluation.
The CFL Draft follows the combine on April 28. All nine franchises have confirmed attendance in Edmonton.
